Girl, 15, who's 'impossible to parent' skips school if she can't wear false lashes

A teenager refused to go to school unless she had time to put her false eyelashes on first, a court has heard.

The 15-year-old girl would also stay in bed or invite friends to her home rather than go to school, meaning her attendance slumped to less than 50 per cent.

Stephanie Pugh, 43, of Blackpool, Lancs, admitted knowingly failing to ensure her daughter’s attendance at Unity Academy.

She was fined £50 by Blackpool magistrates and given a one-year community order with 20 days’ rehabilitation and must pay £85 costs.

Steven Townley, mitigating, said: “This woman is struggling to cope with a daughter who is impossible to parent.”

Sharon Davies, prosecuting for Blackpool borough council, said the girl was now being home educated, but had agreed to take maths and English classes as a “guest” at the school.

Parents who take children out of school without permission can face a £60 fine per child, rising to £120 if it is not paid within 21 days.

Those who fail to pay may be prosecuted, with a maximum fine of £2,500 or a jail sentence of up to three months.
