A 14-year-old schoolgirl who launched a terrifying knife attack on two teachers and a pupil has been sentenced to 15 years in detention. The girl, who was just 13 at the time and couldn’t be named for legal reasons, pulled out a multitool knife and went on a stabbing spree at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, in April last year, reported Metro.co.uk.
Witnesses said she screamed “I’m going to f kill you” before stabbing teachers Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkins, as well as another pupil.
Ms Hopkins suffered the worst of the injuries, with stab wounds to her neck, chest, knee, lower leg, and under her shoulder blade, prosecutors told the court. William Hughes KS said Ms Hopkins had bravely tried to step in and stop the attack, only to be badly hurt herself.
In the lead-up to the attack, the girl had reportedly told friends she was planning to “do something stupid that could get me expelled,” with Mrs Elias being mentioned just moments before the violence erupted.
Afterwards, her behaviour shocked even seasoned officers. While in the back of a police van, she was heard saying: “I stabbed her – oopsies.” She also said: “I’m pretty sure this is going to be on the news, so more eyes will be looking at me. That’s one way to be a celebrity”, reported the Independent.
The court heard she even asked: “Are they dead?” and worried aloud, “How am I going to face my family after what I’ve done?”
Shocking CCTV footage played during the trial showed Ms Hopkins’ brave efforts to protect others as she tried to intervene, only to be seriously wounded herself.
Other staff members rushed in to help and tried to restrain the teenager, but she managed to break free. Armed with the multitool she had taken from her dad, she then stabbed another girl before finally being subdued.
Throughout the week-long trial, the jury heard how the girl had been seeking fame in the most horrifying way imaginable. Her cold remarks after the attack made it clear she craved attention, regardless of the destruction she caused.
Now, after being found guilty of attempted murder, she will spend the next 15 years detained, reflecting on the devastating chaos she unleashed that day.
