A teenage schoolgirl was killed during a grim accident that saw her flung off a fairground ride and onto a metal bar.
Britany Fernandez, 13, was on the pendulum swing at a carnival in Santa Barbara, Honduras on Sunday, August 14 when she hit her head and was killed.
Sickening footage showed how the safety bars keeping Britany secure begin to come loose and open, meaning she had to cling to it at high speed while the ride continued to move.
A stomach-churning thud is heard as the teen's head hit the metal bars below, causing an unsurvivable injury despite the efforts of emergency services and locals who rushed to help her.
She was declared dead shortly after arriving at hospital.
Honduras Police Directorate of Investigations is now looking into the incident to submit a report to the Public Ministry, which will consider if criminal action is needed in response.

No arrests have been made so far.
Jesus Pineda from Santa Barbara Police said: "From the initial investigations, it was determined that Britany's death was accidental. The minor hit a platform on the ride, which instantly caused her death."
Ride owners, meanwhile, blamed the parents for not supervising their daughter on the pendulum swing.
Insisting they "have the operating permits," they said: "The little girl went up unaccompanied by her parents and she fainted. It is not our fault, we have operating permits."

Headmaster of the Juan Lindo Institute where Britany studied, Wilmer Reyes said Britany was a "charismatic" and "humble" young girl.
He called for action to be taken against the fairground operators to improve safety.
Reyes said: "In the military marching band, she played the snare drum.
"We are really dismayed about what happened because she was very well loved at the school, which is shown by the more than 300 pupils who have accompanied her family in their devastating loss.
"We ask that these kinds of fairground rides have greater security measures in order to prevent tragedies like this from happening again."

Hundreds of Britany's schoolmates gathered for a memorial service on August 16, which took place before her funeral in the Trinidad ares of Santa Barbara.
Classmates said that Britany was "full of life, cheerful and intelligent".
Friend Estefany Pineda added: "Britany was always calm, she had a very nice manner. She was always kind. This is so sad that it happened because she had so many dreams in life."
