A young girl was taken to hospital with serious injures after being hit by a car on a main road.
Emergency services were called at around 8.25am on Wednesday to the corner of Smithdown Road and Langton Road in Wavertree to reports of a crash involving a 12-year-old girl and a car. Police and ambulance were at the scene just outside Toxteth Park Cemetery.
The girl sustained serious injuries but is stable in hospital, police said. When the ECHO attended the scene this morning, there were four police vehicles and one ambulance car.

Traffic was also at a standstill for a short while and cars were turning around back towards the city centre. Officers initially fully closed Smithdown Road as they attended the scene before just closing one lane.
Police said a silver Renault Laguna stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries. Roads have since reopened and an investigation is now underway.
