Girl,11, tragically dies in hospital four days after she was hit by car

An 11-year-old girl has tragically died - four days after she was hit by a car.

The youngster, a pedestrian at the time, was struck at around 6.10pm on Thursday, October 22, on a road in Coventry.

She was found critically injured and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police confirmed on Monday that the child sadly died in the early hours of this morning.

The 53-year-old driver of the Verso remained at the scene, but was not spoken to at the time as he required medical attention.

He will be interviewed to establish the full circumstances of what happened. The family of the girl is now being supported by specialist officers.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said after the incident: “Crews arrived to find a girl, the pedestrian, in a critical condition after coming into collision with a car, with bystander CPR already in progress.

“Staff then took over in administering life support to the patient whilst getting her on to the ambulance.

“She was then taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire on blue lights and sirens with the doctor and critical care paramedic on board continuing treatment.

“The second patient, a man, believed to be the driver of the car, was also treated at the scene and conveyed to UHCW for further assessment.”
