Girl, 11, suffers 'serious injuries' following crash involving truck

An 11-year-old girl was left with 'serious injuries' following a crash involving a truck.

Police were called at around 8.50pm yesterday (Tuesday, April 20) to the junction of Blackthorn Lane and Gordon Street in Bacup, near Bury, after a report a Ford Ranger truck had been involved in a collision with a girl riding a kart.

The rider - an 11-year-old girl from Bacup - suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the truck, a man is 30s, also from Bacup, was not hurt.

The road was closed for more than four hours while investigators attended the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Mick Belfield, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Bacup which left an 11-year-girl with serious injuries.

“If you have any information or saw what happened, please contact us.”
