Girl, 11, mauled by out-of-control dog and left with life-changing injuries in attack

An 11-year-old girl has been left with life-changing injuries after she was mauled by an out-of-control dog.

The victim was only saved when two passers-by stepped in to rescue her from the horror attack in East London.

One of them was a cab driver who jumped out of his taxi and beat the dog with a bat, MyLondon reports.

Footage of the early morning attack in Tower Hamlets, shows the girl screaming on the floor, with the dog appearing to bite down on her arm.

A passer-by is then seen trying to pull the dog off the child while bystanders look on from afar.

As one person tries to pull the dog away a man can be seen rushing out of his vehicle to help the girl.

He then runs back, to what appears to be a taxi, and grabs a bat.

Meanwhile, the dog's owner flees the scene.

The cab driver then hits the dog with the bat until it releases the 11-year-old and she can be pulled to safety.

The girl was rushed to hospital and was treated for a bite on the hand, it is thought that her injuries could be life-changing.

A Met Police spokesman told The Sun: "Police were called at 08:31hrs to Ben Johnson Road, E1 after an 11-year-old girl was attacked by a dog. A member of the public intervened to free the victim. The owner of the dog left the scene prior to police arrival.

"The girl was taken to hospital for treatment to her hand - her condition is not life-threatening but may be life changing. No arrests at this time. Enquiries are ongoing."
