Girl, 11, in 'serious' condition at hospital after being hit by a van on Ayrshire road

An 11-year-old girl is in a serious condition after being hit by a van this morning.

The schoolgirl was struck by the vehicle on Parkhouse Road in Ardrossan just before 9am this morning.

The incident took place just outside Ardrossan Academy and the young girl was subsequently rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police confirmed in a statement this evening that the youngster's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the van was left uninjured and police say enquiries into the incident remain ongoing at this time.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant John Houston, from Irvine's road policing unit, said: “Around 8.45am on Monday, November 1, officers were called to Parkhouse Road at Sorbie Road, Ardrossan, following a report of a crash involving a van and an 11-year-old girl pedestrian.

"The girl has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious, but not life threatening injuries.

"The driver of the van was uninjured. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing

”Anyone who witnessed that crash or who may have dashcam footage of the street around the time of the incident can contact road policing officers at Irvine via 101."
