A mum has slammed a school for dress-coding her daughter because her shorts were a few centimetres 'too short'. She explained how her 11-year-old returned home in tears after her teacher spent the day "harassing" her about her clothing.
In protest of the school's 'outdated rules', the American mum sent her daughter in a similar outfit the next day to prove a point. Taking to Reddit, she said: "My daughter just started the sixth grade and came home very upset about one particular female teacher who spends what seems to be a lot of time patrolling the girls' clothing.
"[She has been doing] finger tip tests, threatening detention, giving warnings about those who are 'very close but not quite' in violation of dress code.

"I feel this patrolling is counter productive, unnecessary, and a relic of the past."
While admitting her daughter's shorts did not meet the school's "finger-tip test", she says they were clearly visible under her hoodie.
"The bottom line is they are by no means booty shorts," she added. "She was dress-coded as a warning. Detention is the next step.
"We are new to this district. Our old district was far more laissez-faire, basically if your parts aren’t hanging out, as well as no vulgar language or images on clothing, you’re fine.
"I’m having flashbacks of eighth grade myself when 60 girls, including myself, were sat in the cafeteria for being in violation, me in my four inch inseam old navy drawstring shorts.

"God forbid we disrupt the boys' education, so let’s disrupt the girls, shame them, and harass them."
The following day, she sent her daughter to school in dungarees with a hoodie over - and told her to call her if the teacher said anything about her outfit.
She said: "I told my daughter I will send her to school how I see fit. She is not in baby hooker clothes."
Praising the mum for making a stand, one user said: "That teacher is out of line and I would talk to the other mums and write a firm letter to the school board or principal office
"I agree you shouldn't be able to see privates or vulgar language, but this woman is just power tripping and it sucks for the kids."
Another user added: "I would call the school and find out more about what’s going on, what they expect, and let them know what you expect.
"I would expect the teacher/school to contact me and fill me in on what’s going on if there was an issue like that. Even a note home or something along those lines.
"But I would expect some communication, for sure. Not saying your daughter is lying by any means, but I would get the school's side/expectations too."
A third user said: "Dress codes are stupid - and rules like 'fingertip length' are super stupid.
"I have a niece that is super model tall, long torso, crazy long legs. Fingertip length on her is almost booty shorts. Bermuda shorts were barely fingertip length on her."
