Girl, 11, dies following 'tragic accident' in Cheshire street

An 11-year-old schoolgirl has died in a 'tragic accident after she was found with serious injuries in a Cheshire street.

Police and paramedics were called to Tedder Square in Widnes last Sunday (May 23) to reports a child had been injured in an incident outside an address, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The girl was airlifted to Alder Hey Childen's Hospital in a critical condition, but died four days later.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, Cheshire Police said.

Detective Inspector Rob Lees said: “This appears to have been a tragic accident and our thoughts remain with the child’s family at this difficult time.

“They are being supported by officers and we request for their privacy to be respected.”

A case file will be prepared for the coroner, the force added.

In a previous statement following the incident, Cheshire Police said: "At around 11.20am on Sunday, May 23 police were called to reports that a 11-year-old girl had sustained serious injuries following an incident outside an address on Tedder Square in Widnes.

"Police and paramedics attended the scene and the girl was subsequently taken to Alder Hey Hospital, her condition is currently described as critical but stable.

"Officer are currently establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident, but at this stage it does not appear to be suspicious."
