Girl, 11, airlifted to hospital after crash involving tanker lorry on Scottish island

AN 11-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital following a crash involving two cars and a tanker lorry on the Isle of Lewis.

Two women, aged 23 and 36, were also taken to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway by ambulance following the collision, which occurred on the A857 at about 4.20pm on Thursday.

The crash involved a blue Volvo V60, a grey Mazda 3 and a white Scania tanker.

Police have said no-one suffered life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the tanker, a 38-year-old man, was not hurt.

The road was closed and reopened fully at about 10pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and has information about the incident to contact them.

Sergeant Gary Muir said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

“If you were in the area at the time and have information, including dashcam, that could assist with our investigation then please make contact with us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2612 of August 1.
