Girl, 10, dies from 'cardiac arrest' on flight minutes after takeoff

A ten-year-old girl died minutes after take off following a suspected cardiac arrest on a plane.

She was on board a Delta Airlines flight which had just left Los Angeles on Thursday night.

The unnamed child suffered the "medical emergency" minutes into the trip to Seattle, it was confirmed.

Medics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The official cause of death will now be determined by a coroner but there are no indications of anything suspicious.

Emergency officers announced: "Paramedics responded to a medical aid for a minor female child and furiously worked to save her life.

"Sadly, all efforts were futile and the child was beyond medical help.

"Her death was determined on scene."

A Delta spokesperson said: "Delta flight 2423 to Seattle returned to LA International Airport shortly after takeoff due to a medical emergency on board.

"The flight was met by paramedics. Delta is working to re-accommodate customers to their final destination."
