Gipton police scene linked to masked burglary and gunshot fired in Chapeltown

Police in Leeds are investigating after a gun shot was fired inside a property in Chapeltown during a masked burglary. There are police scenes in place in Newton Road and  in Easterly Square in Gipton as officers investigate, and two men have been arrested.

Three masked suspects had entered the property just after midnight this morning. West Yorkshire Police were called and later found damage to an internal door consistent with a firearm discharge.

The suspect vehicle was identified nearby and tracked by the NPAS police helicopter.

Two men, aged 20 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and firearms offences. They remain in custody.

A number of scenes are currently in place to undergo specialist searches and forensic examination as enquiries into the incident continue. This includes the address in Newton Road and a scene in Easterly Square, Gipton.
