Giovanni van Bronckhorst was turned down by Newcastle United - and now he's working with Man City

Former Arsenal midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst is working with Manchester City just months after being turned down for the Newcastle United job.

The ex-Feyenoord boss was keen to take over from Rafa Benitez in the summer but the club told his representatives that they wanted someone with Premier League experiencing - opting for Steve Bruce.

Van Bronckhorst has been spending time at the City academy but, according to the Manchester Evening News , reports he is set to be offered a coaching role at the Premier League Champions are wide of the mark.

The Dutch international has been working closely with City's parent company - the City Group - which also owns New York City FC, and other clubs across the globe but he isn't expected to land a job top at Man City or elsewhere in the group.

His time with Pep Guardiola's side has been about 'gathering experience of how the club, and the CFG, runs its business,' according to MEN with van Bronckhorst keen to learn more about the City boss' approach.
