Giovanni van Bronckhorst sends Rangers 'competition' warning after Kemar Roofe instant impact

Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits he is relishing the competition for places in his Rangers squad for places.

Sub Kemar Roofe made the difference against Hibs as he netted the vital penalty to send the Ibrox side seven points clear at the top of the table.

After a disappointing night in the capital for Alfredo Morelos, the Dutchman refused to rule out a squad shake-up against Dundee on Saturday.

When asked if players like Roofe would be pushing for a start now, he told Sky Sports: "There has to be competition in any team, and in any squad.

"I have to pick my 11 and change the game with my subs. That's my role, to see what the team needs at certain moments of the game.

"I wanted to bring on Sakala, but we got the penalty and I switched to Lundstram.

"I had to decide, and I think I decided well. "

Having seen first-hand the disappointing Premier Sports Cup semi-final, Van Bronckhorst believes the side put in a much more controlled showing in the rematch.

"It's a tough opponent and they are a good side. They are very well organised. To keep the zero here is massive.

"We knew we always get chances, and today we scored from a penalty, and after that we controlled the game with the substitutions.

"I'm very pleased with the win."
