Giovanni van Bronckhorst provides Alex Lowry update as Rangers kid eyes first team return

ALEX LOWRY has stepped up his Rangers recovery as he attempts to play his part in the Premiership title race in the coming weeks.

The playmaker was ruled out of action for a lengthy spell after being on the wrong end of a reckless challenge from Ally Love during a B Team win over Dumbarton in August.

Lowry shot to prominence under the guidance of Giovanni van Bronckhorst last term and penned a new contract at Ibrox as he committed himself to Rangers for the coming years.

The 19-year-old would give Van Bronckhorst another much-needed attacking option and he could feature sooner rather than later after rejoining the first team squad at Auchenhowie this week.

Van Bronckhorst said: "Alex is a very creative player, a player who can create chances and who can score as well.

"Alex joined two sessions this week so he is back in full training with the squad.

"I think he needs a couple more training sessions to get stronger physically but he is a player that we have back.

"We know his qualities in all the games we are going to play in the next month. He will be involved when he is ready."
