Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes Rangers title call after Hearts win

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has challenged Rangers to keep their Premiership title bid on track ahead of their final fixture before the World Cup break.

The Dutchman saw his side clinch a much-needed 1-0 victory over Hearts on Wednesday night as Malik Tillman netted the only goal of the game at Ibrox.

Rangers remain seven points adrift of Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table and will now turn their attentions to the trip to face St Mirren this weekend.

Van Bronckhorst has been forced to address his future as manager in recent weeks following a record-breaking Champions League campaign and series of poor Premiership performances.

But the Ibrox boss was pleased to quieten some of the noise at last as a deserved home win ensured they didn't drop further ground in their penultimate outing before the break.

Van Bronckhorst said: "I am happy. First I am happy for the team, for the club, that we get three points and after that comes the manager because for me the club is always the most important thing. I am happy that we won the three points for this club.

"It is important to finish with a win and get the three points. Then we have a break and five weeks before we play our first competitive game after the break.

"We can rest a bit, we can recover and prepare well for the second phase. A five week break is good to have.

"Hopefully we get some players back from injury and start fresh again against Hibs in our first game.

"Of course [the title race] is still on. We have to show that in every game and give everything we have to win the games we play.

"That is the same for Saturday. We forget about this game, prepare well for St Mirren and try to get the three points."
