With Rangers receiving a record fee for Nathan Patterson, a window which looked like being quiet could be set to roar to life.
The Scotland international has brought in £11.5million - potentially rising with add-ons - and at least some of that cash will be reinvested in Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's squad.
While Rangers may be top of the league there are areas which need addressed, and the club now have the financial freedom to do so.
During his successful time at Feyenoord, Van Bronckhorst improved young players such as Rick Karsdorp, Terence Kongolo and Bilal Başaçıkoğlu but he wasn't afraid to move for a veteran at the right time.
Free transfer Dirk Kuyt fired them to the Eredivisie title in the 2016-17 campaign, with Robin van Persie arriving the following summer and helping win the Dutch Cup.

With the likes of Steven Davis and Allan McGregor in the squad, Rangers are not lacking in experience.
Could Van Bronckhorst be tempted into a short-term deal for a high-profile veteran?
Here are five who are available.
Kevin Mirallas
Though it feels like he's been around forever, Mirallas is still just 34.
The Belgian winger is a free agent after leaving Gaziantep in the Turkish Super Lig and after close to 200 appearances for Everton he's familiar with British football.

There would be concerns with Mirallas, who spent just a single season at each of his last four clubs: Olympiacos, Fiorentina, Royal Antwerp and the aforementioned Turkish side.
He did get five goals and five assists for Gaziantep last season though and coud be worth a look as a short-term option.
Mateo Musacchio
The spectre of Connor Goldson's departure is looming large over Ibrox, with the rock of the Rangers defence out of contract in the summer.
It appears increasingly likely he will not sign new terms, meaning the club could look to cash in this month.
With Filip Helander still working his way back from injury and Calvin Bassey at the Africa Cup of Nations, that could leave Van Bronckhorst short of options at the back and he may look for a low-cost solution before really addressing things in the summer.
To that end, 31-year-old centre-back Mateo Musacchio would come with bags of experience at the highest level, and after six months without a club may be tempted by a shot at the Europa League.
The former Milan defender is an Argentina international but would be a gamble - he managed just seven appearances for the Rossoneri and Lazio last season due to injuries.
Hatem Ben Arfa
Yes, he can be problematic. No, he wouldn't come cheap. It might blow up within weeks - but who wouldn't want to see Ben Arfa in the Premiership?

On his day the attacking midfielder is a thrilling prospect to watch, beating men with ease and scoring stunning goals.
He's been a free agent since falling out with everyone at Bordeaux, could the former Newcastle and Hull star be tempted to return to Britain?
Sebastian Giovinco
A player who could add a similar sprinkling of stardust but without the baggage is former Juventus man Sebastian Giovinco.
The former Italy international ripped it up in MLS for Toronto FC, banging in 68 goals in 114 games before leaving for Saudi side Al-Hilal.
Now 34 he's a free agent, but has been angling for a return to Canada. The 'Atomic Ant' is also said to be asking for a big salary, which could rule out Rangers.
Kwadwo Asamoah
With Borna Barasic in inconsistent form this season and Bassey largely filling in at centre-back, a left-sided defender could be an option in January.
Ghanaian international Asamoah is available on a free and the fact he's turned out for Juventus and Inter makes him an exciting proposition.
As with Musacchio he's had his issues with injury, managing over 20 league games just once since the 2013-14 season.
However, Asamoah is versatile, able to play left-back, left wing-back, left wing or central midfield and may be worth a six month look.
