Giovanna Fletcher replaces Lily Allen in ghost play alongside Inbetweeners star

Giovanna Fletcher will tread the boards in A Ghost Play alongside Inbetweeners star James Buckley, who played Jim Cartwright in the smash-hit show.

The spooky play previously starred Lily Allen and Eastenders' Jake Wood, and Giovanna said it was a 'dream' to have been 'passed over the baton'.

Taking to Instagram dressed as lead character Jenny, who Lily previously played, Giovanna wrote: "A Ghost Story it gave me chills. Subsequent readings have done little to warm me up.

"The play was brought to life a little while ago with Lily Allen, Hadley Fraser, Julia Chan and Jake Wood and was a humongous success.

"The baton has now been passed over to a new cast including @stephaniebeatriz, @buxtagram, @lostwaxprocess, and I’m beyond thrilled to share that I’m going to be jumping into this thought-provoking play as Jenny. Ten weeks, back on the boards, at the Gielgud Theatre.

"Someone pinch me.

"On reflection, please don’t!

"What a dream!"

The mum-of-three's post was met with a flurry of support, including from her husband Tom Fletcher, who is currently twirling round the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing.

He wrote: "So excited that my incredibly talented wife, @mrsgifletcher is finally returning to the stage and getting to share her brilliant acting skills once again, starring in @222aghoststory in London this winter!!!

"Congratulations honey, can’t wait to see this!"

Tom's dance partner Amy Dowden also joined in the congratulations, writing: "Amazing," while Great British Bake Off's Candice Brown gushed: "Gi this is incredible! Congratulations! I will definitely be coming to watch."

Giovanna and James will be joined on stage at the Gielgud Theatre by In The Heights actress Stephanie Beatriz.

Smile singer Lily made her debut in the West End play alongside EastEnders' Max Branning.

Lily played the role of Jenny, a woman who believes her home is haunted, although her husband disagrees.

The mum-of-two earned rave early reviews at the Noel Coward Theatre in what was a big jump from her days as a singer.

Following the show, fans took to social media to congratulate the cast saying: 'I had goosebumps at the end, the audience were screaming.

"What a play, what a show, what a cast. It’s unbelievable that was her west end debut."

Giovanna is no stranger to being in the spotlight having won I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Outta Here! in Wales last year.

Her husband, McFly frontman Tom is also hoping his Christmas will come early as he eyes up the glitter ball on Strictly Come Dancing.
