Giorgos Giakoumakis blames Celtic transfer exit delay for 'frustrating' Atlanta United debut

Giorgos Giakoumakis finally made his Atlanta United debut after making the move across the pond from Glasgow - and the former Celtic star reckons the red tape delay contributed to a frustrating showing.

Aftering being made to wait several weeks, Giakoumakis' work permit was rubber stamped this week and jetted into Georgia on Thursday night and came on for the final 31 minutes of his side's 1-1 draw against Toronto. He was then denied a goal for offside as a perfect start to life in the States was taken away from him.

The Greek international admits he wasn't in peak condition for the clash as he had to go to Canada in order to make his way to the US for action. Giakoumakis said: "I was frustrated with the length of time it took to go through the visa process. The travel and the visa issues tired me out. I felt tired although it wasn't a fitness thing. I demand a lot of myself. Even if I score a hat trick sometimes I will not be happy. Sometimes I’m too egoist. I know it’s not good, but this is me.

"Hopefully, I will hit top form in a couple of weeks or so. I wanted to thank the fans for the welcome they gave me."
