Giorgos Giakoumakis set Celtic 20 goal target by Pierre van Hooijdonk as Parkhead favourite brands striker 'top class'

Pierre van Hooijdonk has set new Celtic signing Giorgos Giakoumakis a 20-goal target after watching him rip Eredivisie defences to shreds.

But the Dutchman insists the new Parkhead number seven is no Odsonne Edouard.

Giakoumakis wrapped up his move to Glasgow on Deadline Day and the Greek striker was handed the iconic shirt on arrival by Ange Postecoglou.

He previously smashed the scoring charts in the Netherlands with 26 goals in 30 games.

van Hooijdonk reckons he can replicate that form in Scotland as he told the Sunday Mail: "I think he’s capable of scoring 20-plus goals for Celtic this season.

"If you use him properly and play to his strengths, he’s going to get the club a lot of goals. The level of his finishing is top class. If you look at his goals, most of them are really good goals, with a real identity. They’re not all just about power.

"I can understand what he tries to do with his finishes, even when he misses chances.”

But van Hooijdonk insists he's no carbon copy of the skilful Edouard — more like a penalty box poacher akin to Leigh Griffiths.

He said: “This boy is different, he’s more of a poacher. He’s more like Griffiths than Edouard.”
