Gio van Bronckhorst relishing Rangers challenge as he backs fringe men to make Lyon chance count

Upbeat Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst sees no downside to freshening up his starting XI for their final Europa League group stage clash with Lyon.

The Ibrox side are into the playoff knockout round and can afford to rest players ahead of the showdown with the Group A winners in France.

And van Bronckhorst is relishing the chance to give some fringe men the chance to impress in the Europa League against Peter Bosz's men - a man he knows well due to their deep-rooted Feyenoord connections.

Rangers are likely to give regulars such as Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier a watching brief ahead of Sunday's clash with Hearts at Tynecastle.

Speaking ahead of the match, he said: "We have to wait until after this training before I have my final squad. We will watch closely the physical state during training, we can change players and I am more than comfortable giving players minutes tomorrow evening.

"We had to do a lot in our team meetings and our limited time on the training pitch. The players have shown great development and we keep pushing them to win games no matter what, that is the mentality we have to have as a club.

"We are playing a very experienced side with quality players. I am confident my team will play well against a tough opponent. I will prepare and may make some tactical changes ahead of the match, these are the challenges you enjoy in football.

"For the players coming in, it is always great to get minutes. They have given everything in training and I'm very pleased to be able to reward them with minutes tomorrow."
