Gio van Bronckhorst 'insists' on Rangers role for Royal Antwerp talent co-ordinator

New boss Gio van Bronckhorst is set to make another addition to his Rangers staff, according to a report.

The Premiership champions confirmed Roy Makaay, Yori Bosschaart and Arno Phillps as the manager's backroom team as he was officially unveiled at Ibrox on Monday.

But, according to reports in Belgium, Van Bronckhorst is making progress in getting more of his own people in.

Gazet van Antwerpen state Rangers are "insisting" on a role for Royal Antwerp "talent co-ordinator" Zeb Jacobs, having been impressed by his work with the Jupiler League club.

Jacobs' work with Antwerp focuses on individual development of academy players.

The report claims Van Bronckhorst hopes to secure his arrival in the coming days, with his intended role yet to be confirmed.

Van Bronckhorst held his first press conference as manager on Monday after being appointed last week.

The Dutchman was in the stands for Sunday's bruising Premier Sports Cup semi-final defeat to Hibs and has made abundantly clear he won't tolerate a drop in standards under his stewardship.

His declaration followed Connor Goldson claiming some of his Rangers team-mates had lost their hunger following last season's title win.

Van Bronckhorst said: “I expect everyone is on board with me.

“It’s my duty to prepare players for games. I prepare them in their attitude, their hunger and their whatever.

“For me, as a coach and player the hunger has to come from within yourself. It starts with that.

“That would make it much easier for me as a coach, but being involved in top football all my life I know what needs to be done to be successful.

“So that message I got across as a coach when I started, and if something or some player thinks otherwise then they will have a tough manager in me.”
