Gio van Bronckhorst earns Rangers 'reset' chance as Hearts and St Mirren wins could land him sack reprieve

Rangers have reportedly decided not to sack Gio van Bronckhorst before their clash with Hearts on Wednesday. But it's claimed two wins from their next two games is an absolute must if he is to last beyond the winter break.

The Ibrox boss is under intense pressure after defeat to St Johnstone left them trailing rivals Celtic by seven points after just 13 games of the season. After the result in Perthshire on Sunday had fans vocally calling for his head, many expected to wake up to a club statement on Monday morning announcing his departure.

Instead there has been radio silence from the club's official channels with fans frustrated at the lack of an update. But it's now being reported by The Athletic that "nothing has changed" as far as the board are concerned, and he is not likely to be sacked this week unless the situation deteriorates.

It's claimed he has been given no ultimatums by the Rangers board on his position and that wins over Hearts and St Mirren before the break could be enough to "reset" the situation if the board are satisfied with other factors. It's also reported they would have to "think seriously" before changing their manager in the short-term.

Hearts travel to Ibrox on Wednesday with Robbie Neilson's team hoping to inflict another crushing blow. But a win over the Tynecastle with Van Bronckhorst at the helm would be seen as a small sign of revival and could ease the immediate pressure on the Dutchman. Anything but though and it gets increasingly difficult to see a way back for Van Bronckhorst.
