Gino D’Acampo’s Christmas dinner has taken an absolute roasting after a disgruntled woman said the turkey tasted like a “salty leather shoe”.
The TV chef’s festive food was slammed by a woman who took to social media and branded it “a rip off”.
Ashley, who’s video of the grub has gone viral on TikTok, claims that she went with friends to order the turkey meal and anticipated her dish to come “with all the trimmings”.
However, she was very disappointed after being dished up just a plate of turkey, which came in at a whopping £17.95.
In her video, Ashley, who’s username is @east_shore_home, looked to have ordered the Turkey Saltimbocca, which comes with parma ham, marsala wine, and sage.
The festive menu for the chain run by the celebrity chef also says that sides are available ‘for an additional cost’, reports the Mirror.
After sharing the video online, one viewer said that the restaurant was known for quality rather than quantity, then Ashley replied saying the meal tasted “like a salty leather shoe”.
Replying to another commenter, she added: “You think they’d ask if you wanted any sides before it ordered,” and said they ordered a side of chips for £4.50 to accompany the meal after it arrived.
She told outraged commenters that she attended the restaurant with eight other people for a Christmas party so they had to pre-order, adding: “When you see the price and turkey on the menu, we just assumed it came with all the trimmings.”
In the video, Ashley is sitting in the restaurant, and she zooms in on the meal that was served to them.
On the plate, which appears to be covered in gravy, is a small turkey breast next to a few leaves, and the woman sitting next to Ashley looks particularly disappointed.
Over the video, which was captioned ‘rip off!’ was a description which read: “When you’re at Gino D’Acampo restaurant and pay £17.95 for turkey expecting all the trimmings. Just turkey it is!”
Other TikTok users soon commented on the video, which was viewed more than 600,000 times, and most people agreed that posh restaurants charge too much for what they offer.
One said: “Sadly this is quite common in more expensive restaurants. Luckily the waiter questioned my order the first time and now I always check.”
Another wrote: “Welp, looks like it’s time to scream at the teenage waitress.”
While another said: “Turkey is unbelievably cheap, it’s cheaper than chicken.”
And a fourth added: “Go to Wetherspoons then?”
Gennaro Sheffield “Gino” D’Acampo is an Italian celebrity chef best known for his television shows, including Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip.
According to his website, he has eleven restaurants scattered across the country, and it’s not clear which location Ashley visited.
Gino D’Acampo has been approached for a comment.
