Gini Wijnaldum writes heartfelt message to Jurgen Klopp after leaving Liverpool

Gini Wijnaldum has paid tribute to Jurgen Klopp as the Liverpool manager celebrates his 54th birthday.

The Dutchman will officially leave Anfield at the end of the month, having agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain when his Reds contract expires.

However, the midfielder had wanted to stay at Liverpool with Klopp also disappointed to see the 30-year-old move on.

Having signed Wijnaldum from Newcastle United back in 2016, the Netherlands international became a vital part of the German's Reds team that would go on to win the Premier League and Champions League.

Since the end of the season, Klopp has paid tribute to the departing Wijnaldum on a number of occasions, with the midfielder also returning the favour to his former boss.

And now, on the German's birthday, the ex-Liverpool midfielder has taken to Twitter to share a heartfelt message in honour of his old mentor.

"You’ve been an inspiration to me these last five years and a fantastic boss," he wrote.

"Thanks for always believing in me and supporting me in the amazing way you did!

"Wishing you a happy birthday and all the best #JürgenKlopp "

Wijnaldum is currently away with the Netherlands, captaining them in the absence of the injured Virgil van Dijk at Euro 2020.

He will officially become a PSG player on July 1.
