Gini Wijnaldum makes Liverpool contract declaration around recent performances

Gini Wijnaldum wants to focus on helping Liverpool to improve, rather than his own contract situation.

The Reds have recorded six successive Anfield defeats in the Premier League with a series of insipid performances to match, their latest coming in a 1-0 defeat by Fulham yesterday.

Star midfielder Wijnaldum has not missed a game in the top flight under Jurgen Klopp so far this term.

Despite the Dutchman's clear importance to the manager and team, Anfield bosses have not been able to agree a new deal with the player.

His contract is set to expire this summer and Wijnaldum will leave Merseyside on a free transfer once the window opens should he not put pen to paper.

"If you’re a fan and you support the team - you support the player and what they do with me," Wijnaldum told beIN Sports after being asked about his contract situation.

"You want to hear what’s going to happen but on the other side, for me, if there’s nothing to say and no news I cannot say something.

"I hope they can understand that and I hope they will stay patient until there’s news.

"The most important thing right now is that we fix things in the game as a team and we get results.

"Talking about an individual, in this case about me and my contract situation - because I just said there’s no news, I think we can focus on better things than on my situation.

"When there is news, we will bring it out."
