Gini Wijnaldum makes 'greedy' admission about Liverpool problem

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has denied claims that he and his teammates were struggling to create good chances against Burnley, and says there is no lack of confidence among Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The Dutchman, who captained the side at Anfield in the absence of Jordan Henderson, also outlined how all eyes are now on the future with the Reds unable to let their thoughts linger for too long on what has been a tricky period of fixtures.

"[Burnley was] a really tough one," Wijnaldum said post-match.

"Before the game we had good intentions to play against Burnley. We wanted to play good possession play.

"We created enough to score a goal but unfortunately we couldn't. We were not sharp enough and they got the penalty."

Liverpool have scored just once in their last five Premier League matches and took 27 shots against Sean Dyche’s side.

But 11 of those efforts on goal were blocked and 10 went wide of the target.

Wijnaldum believes the drought is not down to a lack of self-belief, though he and his teammates must become more 'greedy' to find the back of the net.

"We 100 per cent had chances," Wijnaldum added.

"Now in the situation we are in we are struggling to score. It is difficult to explain.

"People from outside will say we don't have confidence. I still think we do.

"You shoot against the keeper and a lot of chances we get, we are not 100 per cent greedy to score a goal.

"We have to keep on going. We have to not think about a tricky moment but perform.

"The next game is Manchester United and we have to try and win it."

After the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford on Sunday, Liverpool face Tottenham, West Ham and Brighton in the league before hosting Man City at Anfield on February 7.
