Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino dressing room exchange says everything about Liverpool striker

Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders has revealed that Gini Wijnaldum immediately questioned Roberto Firmino over his role in the team following the heavy loss to Barcelona last season.

Firmino was left out of the starting line-up for the 3-0 first-leg loss in the Champions League semi-finals as the Reds fell to a disappointing defeat.

Wijnaldum instead played as a false nine for Liverpool at the Camp Nou, with the midfielder enjoying a solid but tough performance.

The Dutchman was quick to question Firmino post-match on just how he manages to pull off such a demanding job every week.

That's according to Lijnders, who opened up on the post-game exchange between the two in an interview with AD in Holland, per Mirror Football.

Lijnders said: "We played at Barcelona last season with Gini as striker. He played very well, although we lost 3-0.

“In the dressing room, he immediately walked over to Bobby Firmino, the actual striker, who was not fit enough to start.

"He said, 'Bobby, do you do this every game? Respect! I now see how heavy it is'. That is beautiful. Everyone is responsible for everything, we say.

"But nothing works better than when players themselves feel what everyone's position demands. Not to take away their own specialism, but to experience it."

Whilst the first leg in Spain was a nightmare, Liverpool fans all remember the second leg.
