Wijnaldum agent explains Liverpool contract as transfer talks emerge

The agent of Gini Wijnaldum has lifted the lid on how the midfielder ended up moving from Liverpool to Paris Saint-Germain.

Wijnaldum has agreed to join the French side on a free transfer once his Anfield contract expires at the end of the month.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had wanted the player, who he signed for £25million from Newcastle United in July 2016, to stay with the club where he won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Club and FIFA Club World Cup.

But while confirming Liverpool offered him a new deal, Wijnaldum's agent Humphry Nijman explains the player ultimately wanted to move elsewhere.

The Reds' old enemy Sergio Ramos could help them this summer as his shock Madrid exit may thwart Manchester United's transfer plans.

Ramos has long been a source of anger for Liverpool fans, most famously during the 2018 Champions League final. The Spaniard's clash with Mohamed Salah forced the winger off in tears after just half an hour.

However, the defender could partly atone for his sins this summer by preventing United from signing Raphael Varane.

Ramos' departure has caused president Florentino Perez to rethink United's top defensive target's future at the club.
