While white Academy Awards voters refuse to recognise black and brown excellence — you can bet that people of colour will celebrate their achievements.
Actress Gina Rodriguez has started #MovementMondays to recognize Latino actors and actresses in response to the Oscars failure to nominate anyone but white folks.
“With all this Oscar Talk and lack of diversity I decided to start a movement and speak from the perspective of a Latina American who desires to see more Latinos on screen,” the Jane the Virgin star wrote on Instagram.
“Right now there isn't one Latino that can Greenlight a movie... If you want to see us represented on film and TV, if you want to see Latinos nominated for Oscars, we NEED to support one another.”
Rodriguez also spread the word on her Twitter account and clarified to other people who criticised the actress.
"I find it so disheartening that when you desire to create a solution for peace and unity you instantly get hate. What is it that we long to tear each other down? Clearly, we live in a racist society. Movement Monday's is to highlight those that are in my Latino Community that are doing wonderful work and our support can only make it that much better," she wrote.
"Not to talk about racism. It's obvious this exists in our society. So does tearing me down make us less negative as a society? Please do not get it twisted. I'm aware we live in a racist society. This movement is solely to unite all the various Latino communities. The opposite of racism. #peaceYall."
