Gina Carano has said that she found out about her exit from The Mandalorian through social media “just like everyone else”.
Last week, production company LucasFilm announced that Carano would not feature in future seasons of the hit Star Wars spin-off series. The news came shortly after the actor – who portrayed mercenary Cara Dune – shared a post on Instagram that likened being a Republican in the US today to the experience of Jewish people during the Holocaust.
In its statement, LucasFilm described Carnano’s social media activity as “abhorrent and unacceptable”.
The 38-year-old told journalist Bari Weiss that she first learned of the news on social media.
“I found out through social media, like everyone else, that I had been fired,” she said.

In the same interview, Carano claimed that Disney had stopped her from doing press for The Mandalorian season two after she refused to issue an apology with “their exact wording”.
The move to remove Carano from the Emmy-winning series has been welcomed by many fans, who had previously campaigned for Carano’s dismissal due to her history of sharing controversial tweets.

Others, however, have defended the actor and claimed that her departure is an example of “cancel culture”.
Following the news, fans of Carano called for a boycott of Disney’s streaming service using the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus. However, the request was largely mocked online.
The Independent has contacted LucasFilm for comment.
