Gin advert features hammerhead shark butler and a crack in the wall

Hendrick’s Gin has aired its first ever television advert - a visual fantasy that embodies Victorian surrealism and invites gin drinkers to heed the call of their curiosity.

The distinctive film depicts a butler, who happens to also be a hammerhead shark, at his daily tasks. Intrigued by a martini-glass-shaped crack in the wall, his curiosity helps him discover the secret, magical world of Hendrick’s Gin.

Ifan Jenkins, UK Marketing Director at William Grant & Sons said: “With Christmas being a key gin season, and a time for much-needed delight this year of all years, it’s the perfect time to make our debut on TV. Hendrick’s aims to inspire us to explore our curious nature, by bringing us on a journey into its unusual brand world. And what a better moment for this than the festive season!”

The film was created by agency Quaker City Mercantile, led by Creative Directors Jerry Stifelman and Ron Pushkar. “This advert is simply an allegory for our gin,” explains Stifelman. “With its infusions of rose and cucumber, Hendrick’s at first seems unusual — yet when you investigate further by taking a sip, you discover a delectable world of wondrous flavour.”

Produced by creative agency Strange Beast, headed by Executive Producer Kitty Turley, the film was animated by Tulips and Chimneys, fronted by Director Ree Treweek, with sound by Honeymoon Studios.

This TV first for the brand fronts a fully integrated UK campaign, linking through to out-of-home, social media, search, PR and disruptive in-store activity, and marks a multimillion investment by William Grant & Sons into Hendrick’s Gin during the key festive season.
