Gilmour in with Kovacic out - Frank Lampard’s best Chelsea team when Premier League returns

Today Chelsea will learn the fate of how the future of the Premier League might be shaped for the rest of the 2019/20 campaign.

Uefa announced on Tuesday that Euro 2020 will be postponed for 12 months, giving domestic competitions the time to complete their campaigns.

The Premier League is scheduled to restart on April 4, however that is likely to be pushed back with government protocol likely to dictate league policy.

The Chelsea players are currently self isolating after Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for coronavirus, with Cobham then having shut down.

Chelsea's player of the season so far

There is yet to be an announcement on when the league will get back under way, but when it does there is a lot up for grabs.

Frank Lampard’s side have the fight for the Premier League’s top four to get back under way, with the FA Cup quarter-final with Leicester City still to play.

But what would be Lampard’s best team when the season reconvenes?

Kepa Arrizabalaga has won his place back in goal, and there doesn’t seem to be much argument that he will now keep it.

Meanwhile, Marcos Alonso has had a really good run of form and deserves the chance to be starting at left-back regularly again.

Reece James still remains the best attacking option at right-back, however the performances of Cesar Azpilicueta mean that he should retain his place.

Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger secured back-to-back clean sheets in the FA Cup and Premier League, so seem the strongest partnership right now.

In midfield, Jorginho will still be suspended for the next Premier League game, and the performances of Billy Gilmour prove that he deserves to be starting.

Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante still remains the only really world class player in the team, so should be starting when he is fit.

Mateo Kovacic has, as well, impressed for the Blues this season, but for the balance of the side he might have to miss out in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Mason Mount has been good this season for Lampard and could play behind the front man, with Willian on one side and Christian Pulisic on the other.

Meanwhile, even though Olivier Giroud has come into the side well, Tammy Abraham deserves the chance to try to add to his 13 Premier League goals so far.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Rudiger, Alonso; Gilmour, Kante; Willian, Mount, Pulisic; Abraham.
