Gillian Anderson's priceless reaction to Queen's awkward moment at polo match

On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II and a number of celebrities attended the Royal Windsor Cup polo match at Guards Polo Club in Egham, Surrey.

Her Majesty was there to carry out royal duties, including presenting a trophy to the winning team at the end of the event.

But before she could do so, she had a bit of an awkward moment thanks to the breezy weather.

While descending the stairs from the royal viewing box, the Queen was by a black scarf belonging to Japanese pop star Yoshiki.

The monarch remained composed during the incident, but one onlooker most certainly did not.

The X-Files and Sex Education star Gillian Anderson, had the most hilarious reaction to the Queen being caught up in the scarf.

The 50-year-old was standing a few feet away and watched the incident unfold with a look of sheer horror on her face.

Several photos taken at the time show her shocked expression in all its glory and honestly, the whole thing has just made us love her even more.

Many have since branded her reaction incredibly relatable, with one saying: "Gillian Anderson reacts as we all would".

A second person commented: "These are my new favourite pictures."

"OMG, so hilarious," added a third.

Others were quick to turn photos of the actor's expression into a meme.

The Guards Polo Club was founded on January 25, 1955 with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as President.

Originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club, the name was changed to its present form in 1969 and became a fully civilian club in 2000.

There are currently some 1,000 non-playing members and about 160 playing members.
