Gillette Venus ad has trolls swearing off their razors because of choice of model

Like many an ad campaign, it features a model frolicking in the surf, happy and completely at ease with herself.

However, Gillette's new choice of model has simultaneously sparked both a torrent of outrage and praise.

For their Venus campaign the brand have enlisted Anna O'Brien , aka Glitter and Lazers. In  photo shared across Gillette's social media channels Anna is pictured messing around in the sea along with the caption: "Go out there and slay the day."

A body-positive influencer and author, Anna is not your standard model - a fact which has both angered and delighted people.

Predictably, social media users couldn't accept the size of Anna's body and there were a slew of nasty comments.

In addition to the trolls, Gillette's ad also prompted criticism from people who themselves said they were overweight or who had loved ones who were.

The body positivity/health argument was one which came up over and over again.

However, many people supported Gillette's decision to use Anna and praised her confidence while also pointing out none of us know her medical history.

Also, a quick look at Anna's blog shows she practises yoga and goes running, which debunks many of trolls' comments.

In response to negativity Gillette Venus tweeted:

"Venus is committed to representing beautiful women of all shapes, sizes, and skin types because ALL types of beautiful skin deserve to be shown.

"We love Anna because she lives out loud and loves her skin no matter how the 'rules' say she should display it."
