Giles the guide dog pup just won Holyrood Dog of the Year - here's why you should volunteer as a puppy trainer

East Lothian MSP Iain Gray is calling for more people to volunteer as guide dog trainers after his puppy won the "pawblic" vote at yesterday's Holyrood Dog of the Year show.

Giles was voted the public's favourite dog at the Scottish Parliament yesterday, where ten hounds competed for the coveted prize.

The Scottish Labour MSP  said Giles showed off his exceptional training during the event.

He said: "Giles is the Guide Dog Puppy currently in training with Gil and I, and I am delighted to say that he won the vote, as announced yesterday.

You can take your dog on a date at this West Lothian café

"I was one proud puppy walker at the event, as Giles showed off his exemplary training for all to see - but most of all this was a good chance to publicise the fabulous Guide Dogs Scotland (GDS) and the work they do.

"Guide dogs really do transform people's lives, but GDS always need more trainers, boarders and fundraisers to keep the work going.

"GDS volunteers are also active campaigners on issues like pavement parking."
