Gilberto Silva speaks out on Arsenal return under Freddie Ljungberg

Gilberto Silva has confirmed he has not been in contact over a return to Arsenal .

The former Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a move back to the Emirates to join interim boss Freddie Ljungberg's coaching staff.

Ljungberg has taken over first-team affairs following Unai Emery's sacking.

Gilberto played with the Swede during his time in north London with the pair teammates in Arsene Wenger's Invincibles side.

He admits he would be open to a return to Arsenal but insisted there have been no talks with Ljungberg or the board.

"For me, as an ex-player, it is amazing when there is some link to the club," Gilberto told Soccer AM.

"Let's see. This was a surprise for me despite the fact I am back in England and follow the club closely.

"There hasn't been any contact. I don't know if it will happen now but maybe in the futue.

"At the moment, I can tell you there is nothing in place."

Gilberto also discussed the manager's position and ex-teammate Ljungberg's chances of landing the job on a full-time basis.

"If he gets the results and gets the players supporting him, there is a chance.

"The club will support him but it is important everyone works hard and gets together.

"Of course they will respect him and give him the opportunity to do well.

"There have been a lot of names over the last few days. I read about Pochettino, Allegri, Ancelotti.

"Maybe they go with somebody who will bring confidence back."
