Gilberto Silva proven right about Thomas Partey before Arsenal's dominant Tottenham win

Arsenal continued their fine turnaround in form on Sunday afternoon as Mikel Arteta's men sunk Tottenham in the North London Derby.

The Gunners came out of the blocks extremely quickly - scoring three first-half goals to ensure maximum points for the third consecutive Premier League match.

Some of Arsenal's attacking play was breathtaking at times, the best we've seen all season, with the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all starring for the hosts at the Emirates Stadium.

However, there was another man who looked in fine form against Spurs: Thomas Partey - something that will delight Arteta.

The Ghana international, who recently returned from an ankle injury, made his third appearance of the Premier League season and more than helped his side with some handy interceptions, as well as his eye for a forward pass.

Partey started in midweek against AFC Wimbledon after asking Arteta to be involved so he could ensure he was in the right condition for the North London Derby, football.london understands.

One man who predicted Partey would have a big impact in Sunday's encounter was ex-Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, who explained why the former Atletico Madrid star would be huge in the Gunners' chances at the weekend.

“Everyone knows how important he can be for the team,” Gilberto said in an interview with Goal recently.

“Having this calibre of player is always good for the players because they trust him, especially in that position where many things are decided.

“I hope that he is going to be 100 per cent fit to play 90/95 minutes and help the team. This is what we expect from big players. In this kind of game, they increase their level of quality to push others.

“He is somebody who makes a difference on the field. This is what we expect from a player like Partey.”

Partey has struggled with injury problems since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid for around £45million last summer, but will be hoping to finally put a run of matches together.

The Ghanaian's display vs Tottenham was hugely impressive and it vindicates his request to play in the Carabao Cup, even though some Gunners supporters were worried about risking him before such a huge match.
