A retrospective of works by British art duo Gilbert and George will hit Australian shores for the first time. They met at Central Saint Martins art school in London in 1967, and have made their life and art together ever since. They are known for their tailored suits, and dining at the same Turkish restaurant every night.
Their pictures deal with the great universals: death, hope, life, fear, sex, money, race and religion, and they believe art is the friendship that is formed between the person and the picture. Although people initially said the pair wouldn’t stay together very long, they have, and this retrospective will showcase 97 pictures from 1970 to 2014.
