Gil, Bergwijn, Sessegnon - Tottenham injury news and return dates vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of Manchester United’s visit to North London on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes his side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of a much-needed win as they look to get back to winning ways, and banish the demons of their humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

And they may well have been given a helping hand on that front, with Spurs having suffered a big blow during their Carabao Cup win on Wednesday night.

Despite booking their place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory over Burnley, the visitors saw winger Bryan Gil limp off after just 25 minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

No indication has been given as to how serious the problem may be, but Gil will almost certainly be a major doubt for the visit of United.

"He's on ice and he is being assessed,” Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo said about Gil.

“There's not much more so let's wait to the proper assessment."

Gil’s absence would be a big blow for Spurs, with the former Sevilla winger having been described by football.london as one of the bright sparks so far this season.

Meanwhile, Steven Bergwijn could come back into contention for the hosts on Saturday, having recently made his return from injury, although a disappointing performance against Burnley could see him having to wait for his opportunity.

Matt Doherty is expected to be in contention after being named as an unused substitute in midweek, having picked up an injury on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Ryan Sessegnon looks likely to miss out again though, having sustained an injury while on England U21 duty last month, and with no return date having been given yet.
