Gigi Hadid’s mother, Yolanda, has confirmed that the rumours her daughter is expecting her first child with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik are true.
On Wednesday, The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills star admitted that while the family are shocked the news has become public they are “thrilled”.
“It is going well, but we are still in shock that our little secret has been leaked to the press,” she told Dutch broadcasting station RTL Boulevard.
“Of course, we are thrilled. I can't wait to become a grandmother.”
Yolanda continued by revealing that Gigi and Zayn's first child is expected to arrive in September.
“It is quite special, since I lost my own mother so recently,” Yolanda added.
“That is the beauty of life: one soul is leaving us and another is coming. We feel very blessed.“
Yolanda's mother, Ans van den Herik, sadly died in August last year at the age of 78 following a battle with cancer.
Rumours that Gigi is expecting her first child began on Wednesday morning when TMZ reported that “family sources” said the supermodel is 20 weeks into her pregnancy.
Fans also speculated on social media that the 25-year-old’s recent birthday party doubled as a secret baby shower or gender reveal party.
The rumours were prompted after Gigi shared photos on her Instagram of herself clutching helium balloons with pink and blue ribbons attached, while pictures of a “Hello Little One” gift bag and pink cakes were also spotted.
In an effort to conceal the news, Gigi's sister Bella attempted to cover the giveaway message on the bag with a sunflower emoji but eagle-eyed fans tracked down the bag online.
Gigi and Zayn started dating in 2015, but their “on again off again” relationship has fuelled much speculation after they announced a split in 2018.
The couple were reported to have rekindled their relationship late last year, but have kept their purported reunion mostly private.
In February, Gigi hinted that she was thinking of having children. During an interview with i-D Magazine she said: “I think that as I get older, well one day I'll start a family and I don't know if I will always be modelling.
“I love the creative side of fashion, it's so fulfilling. The people I work with make me so happy, I'm so lucky to be around them. But who knows? Maybe I'll take up full time cooking!”
