Gigi Hadid's home decor mocked by fans saying it 'looks like a student hostel chain'

Model Gigi Hadid recently gave fans a look into her swanky New York apartment - but it's not to everyone's tastes.

The 25-year-old, who is expecting her first child with former One direction star Zayn Malik, has been busy renovating the two-bed pad in Manhattan's NoHo with the help of her mum Yolanda.

Gigi said: "Spent all of last year designing and curating my passion project/dream spot."

From the images she shared, it's clear that the star is not afraid to use colour, or quirky decor in her interior designs.

But fans weren't as keen and were quick to challenge her unusual design choices.

On Instagram Gigi, who has been on her family farm with her sister Bella and partner Zayn Malik since coronavirus hit, said: "Of course it all came together right before quarantining out of the city.

"But I’m excited for the time I’ll get to spend enjoying all the special corners that were made with a lil help from some of my favourite creatives who embraced my ideas and didn’t call me crazy."

Magazine covers have been blu-tacked to the bathroom wall (Instagram)

In the kitchen, on top of the island is a large bowl filled, not with fruit like most houses, but with billiard balls.

And the kitchen cabinets are also drawing people's attention as at first glance the inserts look like they've been decorated with a decal, but in fact the panels are glass and they've been filled with dyed pasta.

There is also a giant ball point pen outside the bathroom door (Instagram)

Moving into the bathroom, Gig has decorated one of the walls with The New Yorker magazine covers, and instead of framing the work, she decided to apply them straight to the marble using blu-tack.

Only a couple of steps outside of the bathroom, leaning against the wall is a giant yellow ball point pen.

And her stairs are lined with brightly patterned carpet.

Everywhere else is decorated neutrally (Instagram)

The rest of the apartment however, is decorated with neutral mid tones, marble and steel giving it a modern feel.

Whilst the reveal welcomed a lot of positive comments from her celeb friends like Tan France, who said: "OMG it turned out so great, Gi! It’s beautiful" and Ruby rose who commented: "Absolutely beautiful G!", others weren't as supportive.

One fan said: "Gigi Hadid’s house being ugly brings me comfort."

Another said: "Gigi Hadid’s inedible dyed pasta cabinet facades ruined my day."

A third said: "Shaken to my core by Gigi Hadid’s abysmal interior design taste."

And anther added: "I'm sorry but the fact that Gigi Hadid is ultra rich and decided to make her Manhattan apartment look like a student hostel chain is sending me."
