Vogue officially christened Gigi Hadid a “supermodel” in December of last year and the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength ever since. Of course, with fame comes the omnipresent gaze of the public eye, and with that, the wrath of trolls on social media. Nevertheless, Hadid has made it clear she takes no prisoners.
After the IMG model shared a picture of her boyfriend Zayn Malik on Twitter, one user took it upon themselves to - for want of a better word - slut-shame her. “Practice how to walk properly instead of having a new bf every 2 weeks,” they wrote in a now deleted tweet.
Hadid speedily retaliated with a whimsical rejoinder. ”I've dated 3 guys in 3 yrs, hun. My walk can always get better; I hope the unrelated bitterness in ur heart can too. (sic),” the Los Angeles-born model wrote.
Now a highly visible and vocal representative of the present-day generation of top models, Hadid was thrust into the limelight at a young age when her mother appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But since then, she has been vocal about the fact she isn’t interested in reality TV. As she made clear in an interview with Fashion Week Daily, “I want to focus on modeling and get away from all that. I want to be known as a model, not a reality star”.
As well as starring in campaigns for Stuart Weitzman, Maybelline and Versace, Hadid has also walked in shows for Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Chanel and more. The model, who has Dutch and Palestinian ancestry, now has 15.2 million followers on Instagram and her social profile continues to grow exponentially.
