Gigi Hadid says Zayn Malik caught baby in his arms during home birth with no epidural

Gigi Hadid has opened up about the arrival of her daughter Khai - revealing she gave birth at home with no epidural.

The supermodel mum, 25, welcomed her first child with Zayn Malik last September at her family's ranch in Pennyslvania.

Speaking about her labour for the first time, Gigi told Vogue magazine how it lasted 14 hours and she went without an epidural, describing herself as an 'animal woman'.

"I had to dig deep,” she told the fashion bible. "There was definitely a point where I was like, I wonder what it would be like with an epidural, how it would be different.

"My midwife was like, ‘You’re doing it. No one can help you. You’re past the point of epidural anyway, so you’d be pushing exactly the same way in a hospital bed.'"

Gigi had originally planned to give birth in a hospital in New York City, however when coronavirus restrictions but a limit on the number of people in the delivery suite, the model decided to stay at home where her partner Zayn could be by her side - as well as mum Yolanda and sister Bella.

Gigi and Zayn purchased an inflatable bath which they set up in their bedroom ahead of their baby's arrival.

The foursome were also joined by a local midwife and an assistant on the day.

Describing herself as being an 'animal woman' when she pushed, Gigi joked she must have looked 'crazy' to onlookers.

"I know my mom and Zayn and Bella were proud of me, but at certain points I saw each of them in terror. Afterward Z and I looked at each other and were like, ‘We can have some time before we do that again!'" she joked.

Gigi said she was left so exhausted she didn't even realise she'd given birth until she looked up and saw her partner Zayn holding their daughter.

As well as sharing her story, the mum also took part in a stylish photoshoot for the fashion mag just ten weeks after giving birth.

Gigi said she knew her body had changed but she has no intention of going back to a 'size 0'.

Vogue's March 2021 issue is available on newsstands nationwide on February 16th.
