Children, parents and carers are cheering after the return of some much-loved activities in person at Canberra libraries.

Popular Story Time sessions and the Giggle and Wiggle program had to go online during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But now they are back in real life.

The only post-Covid concession is that sessions now have to be booked ahead of time. Registrations open three days before each session.

Giggle and Wiggle is a popular song, dance and rhyming program for ages zero to two.

Story Time brings stories, rhymes and songs alive for kids aged three to five.

The ongoing Covid restrictions have also meant limited numbers and no prams or strollers are allowed into the session area.

Enjoying Story Time at Gungahlin Library this week was Jeanette Cotterill, of Hawker, who took along her grandchildren Eva and Molly Miller.

Jeanette said libraries are special to her family. She can remember her own father taking her to the library when she was a child in Melbourne, and she took her town children to Story Time.

"The mix of stories and songs is really lovely," Jeanette said. "And it introduces them to the beauty of books.

ACT Libraries head Vanessa Little said staff were very happy to have the sessions return, and they had missed the interaction with the children. But she reminded anyone who had booked a spot and then couldn't attend to make sure they let the library know.
