Gibbo's Corner - The Swaggering Micky Quinn

As Newcastle United number nines go, Micky Quinn perhaps isn't the first name that springs to mind but with a record of 57 goals in 110 games, he certainly isn't a forgotten one.

In the latest episode of Gibbo's Corner, John Gibson shares his tales of Quinn who was as lively on the pitch as he was off it.

From his goalscoring antics - which started with four goals on his Toon debut - to his love of the bookies and bars, Quinn enjoyed life on Tyneside.

Speaking about the Liverpool-born forward, Gibbo said: "He was a unique character - on the pitch it was all about the goals but Quinny had three loves in his life: birds, booze and betting - and he liked scoring goals too.

"Quinny at Newcastle was a wonderful, colourful and exciting period - epitomised by the sort of swagging centre-forward that fans adore.

"He has this sort of safety first valve, which was he could laugh at himself - whether it was his build, his style of play, the betting or whatever.

"He was loveable to be around, he scored a pile of goals, a great character who I've got an awful lot of time for."
