Gibbo's Corner: The Charltons to Tueart - The Geordie Greats who Newcastle United missed out on

Every football fan has a player who comes to mind as the player who got away from their club.

It is offten as a teenager in the youth ranks or as a young professional on the outskirts of the first team, sold because they couldn't break into the side.

In the latest episode of Gibbo's Corner, John Gibson and Andrew Musgrove discuss the 10 Geordie Greats who never played for Newcastle United but went on to have great careers elsewhere.

From the banks of the Tyne up into Northumberland, the area has produced some of football's greatest players but criminally not all of them pulled on the black and white of Newcastle.

Gibbo - friends with many of the names he mentions in this episode - speaks about:

  • Bobby and Jack Charlton
  • Dennis Tueart
  • Stan Mortensen
  • Steve Bruce
  • Michael Carrick
  • Wallsend Boys Club
  • Norman Hunter
  • Don Hutchison
  • Jack Hixon's discoveries
  • Ray Kennedy

There's also some chatter on scouting youngsters, Peter Beardsley's hard journey into the game, and a look back on the great career of Lucy Bronze - who Gibbo crowns the 'best footballer in the world.'

The pair also reveal some Everything is Black and White Podcast merchandise with t-shirts both for the podcast and Gibbo's Corner unveiled.
