Giants’ Xavier McKinney just wants to be a winner

Since the moment he was selected in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft, safety Xavier McKinney has been very open about his desire to do anything necessary to help the New York Giants win.

Whether that means playing free safety, creeping up into the box as a strong safety, sliding into the nickel role, playing linebacker or excelling on special teams, McKinney is all for it. He’s just starved to win by any means necessary.

“I just want to win. Whatever I have to do to contribute to the team I’ll do, whether that’s the smallest role it doesn’t really matter. I just want to be a winner,” McKinney told Sky Sports.

Of course, McKinney knows you can’t win them all and recognizes that he’s joining a rebuilding team. As a result, there will be a few times he and his teammates have to pick themselves up off the floor.

“You can’t win every one, even the greats have lost. There will be times where things don’t happen how you want them to happen but it’s all about how you bounce back and keep going forward,” he said.

This sort of attitude will serve the Giants, their coaches and their players well. It’s also why head coach Joe Judge likely fell into “full bloom love” with McKinney. This sort of attitude is infectious and might be just what the doctor ordered to help turn the organization around.
