Giants win 3-1 behind Posey, Pagan and Peavy

SAN FRANCISCO _ Home runs by Buster Posey and Angel Pagan supplied all the runs Jake Peavy would need Monday as the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 before a Fourth of July crowd of 41,874.

Posey hit a solo home run in the second inning, his 10th, with Pagan hitting a two-run home run with Ruben Tejada aboard in the third inning.

Peavy gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings, and that came in the top of the second when he balked with the bases loaded to bring in the Rockies' run. He walked two, struck out six and improved to 5-7.

The Giants bullpen, inconsistent of late, came through with Javier Lopez, Sergio Romo, Josh Osich, Derek Law and Santiago Casilla finishing up. Romo was activated from the disabled list Monday after missing the first 76 games with a flexor strain.

Romo's entrance was a minor surprise, given manager Bruce Bochy's pregame inclination to get him more of a low-stress inning for his first appearance of the season. However, with a 3-1 lead in the eighth, Romo arrived to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

The first batter to face Romo, D.J. LeMahieu, hit a ball to the hole at deep short which was fielded by Brandon Crawford, with Brandon Belt digging out the throw at first.

Romo then gave up a double to longtime Giant-killer Nolan Arenado, with the ball hitting the left field fence on the fly. That ended Romo's appearance, with the left-handed Osich coming in to face lefty swinging Carlos Gonzalez.

Osich retired Gonzalez on one pitch, getting a ground ball to Crawford. Law entered and got Trevor Story on a slow chopper to Grant Green at second, a close play that was held up by replay.

Casilla came on in the ninth inning to record his 20th save and send the Giants to 53-32 on the season with Madison Bumgarner (9-4) and Johnny Cueto going on Tuesday and Wednesday against the 37-45 Rockies.

In a 12-pitch ninth inning, Casilla retired Ryan Raburn on a grounder to short and struck out Mark Reynolds and Nick Hundley.
